"For quite sometime now, there has been
felt need for an appropriate and task oriented course on
Public Health in India. The Institute of Health Systems,
Hyderabad is now offering such a course based on their
considerable experience and understanding of important
issues of public health, both at macro and micro level. The
Institute is headed by a dynamic and distinguished Civil
Servant, Dr.Prasanta Mahapatra, who has done path-breaking
work in reviewing and revitalizing health systems in Andhra
Pradesh."
---Alok Mukhopadhyay
Chief Executive,
Voluntary Health Association of India. |

- I am extremely impressed with the proposed course.
- "Course objectives are of very high relevance.
Most post graduate and in-service training programmes
for public health in India neglect the social science
aspects, especially analytical perspectives like health
economics and policy. As a result professionals in key
positions are unable to judge the merits of programmes
proposed by donors. The course objectives are also
highly relevant for the private and voluntary sectors in
an increasingly competitive environment.
- The division of the course content into two streams
ensures that students get the opportunity to concentrate
on acquiring skills which would be of use to them in
their chosen careers.
-
The effort put into preparation of the prospectus and
course description speaks volumes for the commitment of
the Institute. Teaching at this level requires that the
faculty handling each module have considerable expertise
in the field, and it is unrealistic to expect the core
group to develop skills in all these areas.
-
This course may be most useful for mid-course
professionals from all strata of the health services in
the States. It would be ideal if the Institute gets the
state governments to agree to support students for
training, by giving deputations/fee support etc.

"I am very much impressed with the contents of the
Programme. This programme will be highly relevant in our
situation. With long years of service in the central and
state government and particularly in the Ministry of Health
& Family Welfare during the last few years before my
superannuation, I have felt very strongly on the need for a
course of this type. I am sure you will suceed in
introducing this course and your institute will be the
appropriate forum under your leadership to make it a
success. People won’t have to go to schools in the United
States or other countries to qualify on the subject."
--AR Nanda,
Executive Director
Population Foundation of India
Formerly Secretary to Govt of India, MoH&FW,

"A great idea to meet the health care needs of
India. Our Institute will be happy to collaborate and I
personally endorse the development of such new initiatives
very enthusiastically"
--Dr.Gullapalli N Rao
Director,
LV Prasad Eye Institute,
Hyderabad.

"The APH-Prospectus does touch on several important
aspects, which are currently not part of PG curricula and
are yet to be adequately covered in in-service training
programmes. The feedback from the first batch may be the
best method to assess the usefulness of the course"
--Dr.(Mrs) Prema Ramachandran,
Adviser (Health, Nutr & FW),
Planning commission, New Delhi.
