Two of the IHS Faculty members, Mrs. Srilatha
Sivalenka and Ms. P.R. Samatha Reddy, attended the workshop titled
‘Strengthening Capacity for Health Research to Policy in India’
conducted by the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), held
between 24th and 28th March 2003. The workshop was on the use of the
Collaborative Training Project (CTP) Modules in Problem Solving
Workshops. The workshop was sponsored by the Alliance for Health
Policy & Systems Research (AHSPR), the World Health Organization
(WHO) and the Ministry of Medical, Health and Family Welfare.
The workshop dealt with how to translate research into policy.
Many a time, research is not translated into policy, because
researchers do not publish their work, or are unable to present the
results efficiently to suit policy makers needs, or have not done
priority setting before conducting the research. The workshop gave
many ideas in the area of Knowledge Management to publish research
in journals, and use free resources available on the internet. The
latest information and communication technologies were highlighted.
Researchers were encouraged to present results in an efficient
manner to policy makers. If research priorities were set correctly
at the local, state, national or global level, it was felt that
research results automatically lead to policy.
