The Institute is governed
by a system of authorities consisting of an executive committee, a general body and the
board of governors. Programs and activities of the Institute are carried on by a team of
faculty and staff lead by the Director, who is the chief academic and executive officer of
the Institute. The General Body and the Board of Governors meet annually. The Executive
Committee oversees management of the Institute, appoints the Director and the Finance
Officer. Office Bearers of the Institute consist of the Chairman and the President. The
Chairman presides over the meetings of the Board of Governors and the General Body. The
President chairs the Executive Committee. The Ethics Committee examines all research
proposals and activities to assure that ethical standards of research are satisfied. New
research proposals are discussed in the Faculty Committee to satisfy about the objectives,
and research methodology. The Director presents a report on the Institutes
activities to the General Body every year, along with the Audited accounts of the
Institute. These documents are available for purchase by interested members of the public
across the Front office. |

Ethics Committee: |
|
|
Research projects taken up
by the institute adheres to the high moral and ethical standards in choice of methodology
to test various hypotheses. The ethics committee reviews the proposals for research to
assess among other considerations whether the research so designed would yield meaningful
results that could not be obtained by other methods. The ethics committee also assesses
whether voluntary and informed consent of the individuals participating in the study is
obtained and whether the study has been planned in a manner so that the degree of risk
taken and inconvenience caused does not exceed that determined by the humanitarian
importance of the problem to be solved by the experiment and also sees that the study will
be conducted by persons who possess the requisite competence and qualities to carry out
the research. The ethics committee consists of about five members, two of the members are
from outside the institute. Director of the institute is a member and convenor of the
committee. Life of the committee is permanent, with members joining it according to the
terms of their appointment. The committee after examining the details of a proposal, may
either certify that the project has obtained the committees clearance as such or
with specific conditions, or advise appropriate modifications to methodology so as to meet
social ethical considerations. |

Faculty Committee: |
|
|
The Institutes
faculty meet from time to time to review the Institutes research activities, share
information about their respective projects. The faculty committee advises the director
about academic matters and general management of the Institute. |

|
|
|
Administrative and Support Capabilities: |
|
|
General support services of
the Institute include the Front Office, Facilities Maintenance, and General Assistance and
Secretarial Services. The Front office is manned from 9 am to 7 pm. Round the clock,
dedicated security services allow faculty and staff to access their office whenever
required. One general assistants is in charge of facilities maintenance, assisted by an
electrician, sanitary workers, and supported by other contractual service providers.
Project support staff and secretarial assistants maintain project correspondence files.
The Accountant is supported by computerized accounting software to facilitate maintenance
of accounts. The accountant provides project related accounts to concerned faculty as
needed. The Institutes accounts are audited by a Chartered Accountant and are
regularly filed with the Income Tax department. The Training Services Officer assists in
registration of students and participants for various academic programmes and provides
required logistic support. The Institutes publications and general enquiries from
public are handled by the Communications and Services officer. |
